AI usage for creating various types of art is on the rise. The same goes for AI text generators, like ChatGPT. So, it’s no surprise that AI and the art of the written word can be combined, and that’s what NovelistAI is doing.
Create unique stories with AI
Created earlier this year by indie developer Albert Simon, NovelistAI is a website that helps users create unique stories, novels, and interactive books using artificial intelligence. Users can use the website to generate a story, experiment with different formats such as “Choose Your Own Adventure”, create stories based on their favorite films or games, or channel their favorite writer’s writing style in their own work.
Users have to sign up for the NovelistAI service. They get ten free credits and can either pay for more or earn them through affiliate sales. Once a user signs up and verifies their email, they can click “Write a New Book” in their dashboard. They can then customize the length, the “interactivity”, the length, and the features of the story.
Generating a story
Here is what I got when I instructed Novelist AI to write me a short novel with specific parameters. I made modern-day Frankfurt the setting of my justice-themed lighthearted young adult thriller with me and my colleague, Christopher Isak of TechAcute, as the main characters. I also set the novella to be written in the style of Leo Tolstoy.

I had NovelistAI write the first two chapters of this story. Spoiler alert: the Frankfurt crime syndicate’s actions have gotten weird very quickly. There wasn’t much dialogue, but that could have been due to the parameters I set.
Overall, NovelistAI is a good idea, especially for target groups like parents who want to create unique stories for their children. I can also see it being a good tool for fanfiction writers. However, such artificial intelligence raises many questions about intellectual property ownership.
