People really loved our apps, Go!Chat got excellent reviews and reached 16 million downloads in less than 3 years without being featured in Google Play, we peaked at 820,000 daily users (almost 3 million monthly), and we were chosen over official apps done by Facebook, even after they released Facebook Messenger. Our income peaked at $4000 a day with 8 employees.
I was too focused on product design and Android development, on “superfluous” things like having a bigger office or providing with homemade meals. I failed at being a leader and driving the company towards new directions and products, and I failed at delegating. We took one and a half years to release Go!Chat for iPhone, and 8 months to release a revamped version of the Android Go!Chat, that kills a team. In the meanwhile, the relationship between the co-founders was fragile, and in fall 2012 the shadow of a possible acquisition made things even worse.
