Se ha celebrado una manifestación en Alemania contra una patente que posibilitará la cría selectiva de cerdo mediante un procedimiento de análisis genético en manos de la estadounidense Newsham Genetics. El método en cuestión permite seleccionar cerdos con un “super-gen”, responsable de un crecimiento más rápido del normal.[...] según un estudio de Greenpeace, este gen se encuentra, de manera natural, en la mayoría de los cerdos criados en Europa.
